“Cabernet” Trademark Right Exclusively Owned by Changyu

State Administration for Industry and Commerce announced that the trademark right of “Cabernet” is exclusively owned by Changyu Winery Group, it is not the generic name of grape varieties.

Changyu has lodged the application of “Cabernet” trademark right from 2002, which was opposed strongly by many other wine enterprises, because “Cabernet” is the name of grape variety. On May 26th, 2008, the trademark of “Cabernet” is ratified by State Administration for Industry and Commerce.

However, COFCO said that they will lodge an appeal during the given period to secure the interest of wine industry.
