ROANOKE ISLAND, N.C. --A North Carolina winery is releasing a wine with grapes that come from cuttings from what is believed to be the world's oldest cultivated grapevine.
The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk, Va., reports that Duplin Winery is releasing MotherVine Premium Scuppernong Wine, made with grapes from cuttings from the 400-year-old Mother Vine on Roanoke Island and with other hybrid scuppernong grapes.
Rose Hill-based Duplin Winery will introduce its new wine Tuesday on Mother Vineyard Road, site of the Mother Vine. Winery owner David Fussell Sr. describes the wine as the best in the winery's 36-year-old winery.
The first pressing of MotherVine wine will produce 224 cases. Each bottle is expected to sell in stores for about $11.
