Margaret River comparisons for Qld wine industry
The vice-president of the Queensland Wine Industry Association says the state's wine industry has the potential to achieve the same success as Western Australia's Margaret River.
John Heslopp says Queensland wines have made huge inroads over the past five years.
Mr Heslopp says he is aware of the many comparisons being made between the wine industry in the Margaret River area and where Queensland is at right now.
"In fact, Western Australia was in a similar position 30 or 40 years ago. In the scheme of things 30 or 40 years isn't that long. We all know how the wine industry is viewed in Western Australia now, it's held in quite high regard," he said.
"There is obviously a huge opportunity for Queensland to go down the same path if we do things right."
The annual Queensland Wine Industry Association conference is being held today in Toowoomba in southern Queensland.
