Wine-tasting tour aims to help military families

As a fundraiser for young military families at Beale Air Force base, the Sierra Starr Vineyard in Grass Valley is hosting a free wine-tasting and vineyard tour Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Admission is free for those with a donation to Airman's Attic, a nonprofit organization that provides household goods, furniture, kids' toys and clothing to enlisted families at Air Force bases nationwide.

Winery owner Phil Starr, a Vietnam War veteran, said he wanted to help Airman's Attic because he knows "what it was like to try and make ends meet" while a young enlistee.

Donations especially needed are baby food, formula and diapers; housewares (dishware, toasters, coffee pots, etc.) and personal hygiene items (shampoo, soap, toothbrushes).
