More and more Wuhan consumers like to drink wine, which has aroused the interests of overseas wine producers. Following the Bordeaux's largest wine producer’s recent visit, three overseas wine producers gathered in Wuhan, and hope to open up the local market.
Statistics showed that Wuhan annual wine sales increase by the average rate of 15% to 30%, greatly exceeding the local liquor which is about 10 percent of the increase.
The wine producers are from France, Australia and Argentina, all made Wuhan their first stop of central-western China, bringing the total of 10 wines.
“30 percent of the growth rate in Wuhan is alarming. In other Asian countries, wine consumption is far from such a rapid growth rate. "Many consumers in Wuhai are connoisseurs, they not only ask what country the wines come from but also want to know the wine region.” a Metro wine manager said.
In the past, Metro only displayed the wines roughly by "New World" and "old world", now they put the specific information of wine region besides producing country. The varieties in the past 2 years increased by 50 per cent, from more than 200 to over 300; The most premium wine from 3,000 yuan "upgrade" to 10,000 yuan .
