The governments of France and Hong Kong signed a memorandum of understanding to boost cooperation in wine related businesses between the two countries.
"The first free wine port [among] major economies has received encouraging responds from the market,'' said Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun-wah who earlier this year abolished all duties on wine in the territory.
He said the MOU was the first wine-related agreement inked by Hong Kong with a foreign government.
Tsang praised France calling it the leading wine producing nation of the world.
French wines currently account for 30 percent of the imported wine volume into Hong Kong.
