Matanzas Creek Winery Celebrates 30th Vintage
Special Tastings, Promotions Planned at Iconic Sonoma County Winery
SANTA ROSA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Matanzas Creek Winery, one of California’s most consistent and influential wine producers, will celebrate its 30th vintage with the 2008 harvest. Starting in October and extending through the end of the year, the iconic Sonoma County winery that set standards for California Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Merlot, will host special tastings and promotions that pay tribute to its heralded past and toast its brightly shining future.
“Since our founding three decades ago, our focus has been to produce world-class wines that showcase the special qualities and immense diversity of Sonoma County,” commented Winemaker Francois Cordesse. “In recognizing this milestone, we invite people to help us honor and celebrate our treasured history as we set new standards and strive for even higher quality.”
This fall, visitors to Matanzas Creek Winery’s Bennett Valley Tasting Room will be treated to special wines and a trip down memory lane. Private tastings of wines not normally available to the public can be set up via prior reservation. Memorabilia and photos of the winery’s beginnings will be accompanied by music from the 1970s, and tasting fees will be waived on weekends in October. Guests can peruse the 30th vintage logo items, and anyone who joins the wine club in October will receive two free 30th vintage wine glasses. During October, November and December, tasting fees will be waived for anyone born on the 30th of any month, or anyone turning 30 or celebrating a 30th wedding anniversary in 2008.
Matanzas Creek Winery was founded in 1977 in bucolic Bennett Valley at a time when few California wineries were focused on creating handcrafted, premium quality wine. Over three decades, the winery has become known for its crisp, versatile Sauvignon Blancs, luxuriously rich Chardonnays and pure fruit, earthy Merlots. Many of its former winemakers have grown into industry icons. In 2003, Bennett Valley was recognized as Sonoma County’s 13th American Viticultural Area due to its distinctive climate, soil profile and topography. Matanzas Creek’s 301 acres located in the appellation continue to form the foundation of its highly esteemed estate wine program. The beauty of the winery, vineyards, lavender field and gardens has earned the estate worldwide recognition as a California wine country destination.
