Wine named after Jake White, but it’s a red
GOOD rugby coaches mature. And so do good wines. So what happens when a winning rugby World Cup coach and a wine estate get together?
You get 2007 Jake White Cape Red, a limited edition wine with only 2007 bottles of the exclusive Pinotage being made available to buyers .
South Africa’s former rugby World Cup winning coach has been following the three Tri-Nations matches in South Africa to launch the wine.
In Durban, ahead of the Springboks’ clash with the Aussies, Jake White said at the launch: “As a rugby coach, I didn’t think I would be talking about wine.”
And while the guests at the launch of the exclusive wine gave it the thumbs up, White was certain when it should be brought up from the wine cellars to be consumed.
“The wine will last until we win the next world cup in 2011,” he said.
Most of the proceeds of the wine are going to the South African Rugby Legends development programmes.
Each bottle of the wine made by the Wildekrans cellars has been numbered and has Jake White’s signature on it.
If you’re hoping to get the bottles numbered 91 and 95, forget it.
