Sutter Home Takes On Tradition With a Contemporary Kick

ST. HELENA, Calif., Sept 10, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Traditional red wine blends are hot, but leave it to Sutter Home to take a contemporary twist on tradition and broaden the definition of 'red blend' for more to enjoy. The Napa Valley-based winery's latest offering, simply called 'Red,' offers consumers a chance to further their wine tastes. A blend of predominantly Merlot and Zinfandel, Sutter Home pushed the envelope and mingled in a touch of Moscato, a varietal that has enjoyed wild success among Sutter Home fans for years. The breakthrough blend takes established varietals of Merlot and Zin, which provide full-bodied flavor and have always appealed to red wine drinkers, and added the Moscato, which brings a light, floral note and approachability that has drawn consumers to Sutter Home for decades.

Also widening the appeal is how the wine can be served -- at room temperature as one would serve a red wine, or chilled as with a white wine.

"The diversity of the varietals lend the wine to any occasion," says Wendy Nyberg, senior director of marketing for Sutter Home. "Not only can it be enjoyed at any time, but the blend of varietals will also appeal to those with different wine preferences. No national brand has put a stake in the ground to own this taste profile that appeals to not only those who enjoy white and blush wines, but even red wine drinkers. It's truly a crowd pleaser."

Known for being a brand that gives wine lovers what they want, Sutter Home has always looked to consumers to dictate what the company comes up with next.
Red began hitting stores around the country in mid-August, with a suggested retail price of $5.99.
