Labels track shipping temperatures of wine
Some wine bottles being shipped around the country now have high-tech to monitor travel temperatures.
It's called Paksense Smart Monitoring Labels.
``You can stick it to a bottle, you can stick it to fruit, you can stick it to a case and it will track temperatures," said Nathan Mears of Sportsman's Fine Wines in Phoenix.
The label has a LED display that shows a green light if the shipping temperature was fine, red if the wine was exposed to heat.
``It's all about peace of mind that it was cared for while it was being shipped, because if it comes to you with a red light, chances are it is already ruined," Mears said.
Mears said the labels are a good idea if you're having really good wine delivered directly to your house.
``Because you want to know. If it's an expensive bottle of wine that you're going to lay down for years, it's kind of nice to open that box and see that little green light and know that this was treated well during shipping."
Mears hasn't seen the monitoring labels, which cost about $20 a box in Arizona yet.
He said he tries to avoid shipping wine during Arizona's summers.
``We try to not ship from basically sometime in April to sometime in October, because it's just too hot."
