The Biz Bite: A Blog to Boost Business From dreaming to doing
I watched the movie Sideways again last night.
In the film, two 40-something pals head to Napa for a weeklong bachelor party consisting of day trips to wineries, delicious dinners at local restaurants, and a few rounds of golf.
After a few days in wine country, the sidekick actor character, Jack (played by Thomas Hayden Church), says to his pal the English teacher and wanna-be writer, Miles (played by Paul Giamatti), something to the effect of, "Hey, we should quit our jobs, move to Napa Valley, buy a vineyard, and make wine for the rest of our lives."
At the time, Miles thinks the idea is far fetched. He's depressed about his day job, can't find a publisher for his third book, still weighed down by his divorce from a year ago, and can't imagine how he could ever live that dream.
After drinking a lot of wine, meeting up with a couple of local wine women, and doing a lot of soul-searching, Jack winds up returning to San Diego to marry into a family of realtors (I think it was?)卆nd Miles is knocking on the door of his love who is studying horticulture to eventually work on a vineyard.
There are a lot of different types of entrepreneurial minds out there.
Some are the dreamers. Others are the doers. A few dream and then eventually do. And still others dream and do and then start all over again with the taste of something new.
