Olympic wine with Portuguese cork
A LONG-STANDING business relationship between Great Wall Wine, China’s largest winery, and Portugal’s Amorim, the world’s leading cork producer, led to a joint project to seal all the wine served at the Beijing Olympic Games with natural cork.
The Great Wall Wine company was the ‘Wine Exclusive Supplier’ for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.Olympic team members and delegates from all over the world had the opportunity to experience locally produced quality white and red wines in the Olympic Village, with all the wine bottles sealed with Portuguese natural cork. An integral part of wine culture for hundreds of years, cork forests and cork products are today recognised as playing a key role in the economic, social and environmental prosperity of more than 100,000 people throughout the Western Mediterranean, fostering a unique, harmonic balance between man and nature. According to Amorim, “Leading wineries such as Great Wall Wine, aware of the need for sustainable business practices, play a vital role in defending this balance.” China’s Great Wall Wines are exported to many countries including France, Germany, UK and the USA.
