Winery plans grand opening
PLUMSTED — The two-day grand opening of Plumsted's first winery and grape vineyard, Laurita Winery, 35 Archertown Road, is scheduled for Sept. 20 from noon to 6 p.m. and Sept. 21 from noon to 5 p.m. There will be wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, live music, tractor hay wagon rides and valet parking. Touring Laurita Winery, one will experience the harvesting of grapes from the vineyard, the processing, storing and bottling of award winning wines.
The Laurita Vineyard focuses on making wines from grapes that appeal worldwide, concentrating on the Vinifera, the classic European noble varieties.
From 1998 to 2000, the first 20 acres of Chardonnay, Cabernet and Merlot were planted. In 2002, the second 20 acres of vineyards received the cuttings for the Pinot Gris, Lemberger, Chambourcin, Norton and Zweigelt.
According to a press release, Laurita Winery is more than a greenway vista that overlooks hundreds of farm acres in the land preservation program, it operates on "green technology" with solar panels providing the sustainable clean energy source for its electrical power.
