The magic of northwestern food and wine comes to Shanghai
PAIRING food and wine can be a delicate affair, and not everyone has the sensibility to get it right. Lovers of both, however, are in for a treat next week as T8 and ASC Fine Wines host Canadian guest chef Peter Birk for a week of fine fare and Chateau Ste Michelle wines.
From September 9 through September 14, foodies can get their fix of the Washington State's wineries drops paired with the creative creations of Ray's Boathouse's executive chef. Considered to be among the state's foremost establishments, the restaurant has a reputation for matching the Ste Michelle's wines spot on.
Chef Birk has worked with these drops for the last 10 years, and says "the understanding of the pairings comes from Ste Michelle producing great northwest wines that perfectly complement northwest cuisine."
An authority on artisan cheeses, fresh shellfish and crustaceans, wild salmon and grass-fed beef, the Missouri-native will be right at home at the culinary chapel, that is T8. His repertoire includes magical dishes such as seared scallop with vanilla, white asparagus, cauliflower, salmon peals and micro basil while this may sound like a lot going on at the same time, it in fact presents two separate flavor profiles that combine with the Eroica riesling effortlessly.
The chef will be manning the burners for lunch and dinner. The weekday lunch package offers two courses for 168 yuan (US$24.60) and three for 198 yuan. For an extra 100 yuan, diners can sip on a glass of CSM riesling and a glass of Erath pinot noir.
The weekend brunch comes with a glass of Domaine Chateau Ste Michelle bubbly and features two course at 198 yuan, three at 228 yuan and four for 268 yuan.
Connoisseurs must not miss the dinner tasting menus. Five course set you back 588 yuan (988 yuan paired with wines), and eight courses cost 888 yuan (1,388 yuan with wines.)
