Wine buff to auction £1.2m of Bordeaux and Burgundy

  A single owner is selling in excess of £1.2m worth of vintage Bordeaux and Burgundy wine at an auction at Sotheby's in London this month.

  The sale, called a Superb Private Collection, comprises a selection of vintage Bordeaux, Sauternes and Burgundy, as well as Krug Champagne and will take place on September 24.

  Serena Sutcliffe, head of Sotheby’s International Wine Department said: “I can honestly say that this is one of the finest collections of wine that I have sold in over 17 years at the helm of Sotheby’s Wine Department – and we have had the good fortune to offer many extraordinary cellars."

  She added: "The selection of First Growths is magnificent and the top Pomerols are sublime with extraordinary Pétrus and Lafleur. The Burgundy is equally magnificent, with landmark Henri Jayer, Méo-Camuzet and Ramonet, many in rare large format, exceptional for these iconic Grands Crus. Then there is outstanding Yquem and Climens, fabulous Hermitage La Chapelle and show-stopping Krug.”

  Sotheby's said the owner, who did not reveal his identity, had to sell the collection due to a lack of space in his cellar.

  The most expensive Bordeaux is expected to be the Château Lafleur 1982, which could fetch up to £32,000 for 12 bottles.

  Of the Sauternes, the finest is the Château d’Yquem 1967, priced at up to £8,500 for 12 bottles.

  The top burgundy is expected to be the Richebourg 1959, at an auction price of £26,000 for seven bottles.

  The magnum of Krug Vintage 1953 is expected to go for up to £1,300.
