BIRMINGHAM: Wine, top chefs at Townsend event

The Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan is holding a fund-raiser called Crush Birmingham, featuring several top chefs and wine experts.

The event will be at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Townsend Hotel. It is to include wine and appetizers, a live auction and dinner. Chefs like Brian Polcyn of Five Lakes Grill in Milford and Don Yamauchi of Forté in Birmingham are to be on hand, as is author and sommelier Evan Goldstein.

FARMINGTON HILLS: Walk or run to help children catch some z's
Sweet Dreamzzz Detroit is hosting a 5.4K Sleepwalk Run on Sept. 20 in Shiawassee Park. The Farmington Hills-based nonprofit organization provides sleep education and bedtime essentials such as pillows and toothbrushes to at-risk children in southeast Michigan.

The event begins at 9 a.m., with registration at 8 a.m., and is for runners and walkers. It cost $25 to enter in advance or $30 the day of the race. Those age 17 and younger pay $15 and participants age 55 and older pay $10.

NORTHVILLE: Event to raise funds for leukemia nonprofit
Christoph's ALL Stars is holding its annual charity evening from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Toll Brothers model home on 17205 Crestbrook Drive. The event will feature a silent and live auction. Tickets are $10.

The nonprofit organization was founded by 12-year-old Christoph Bartschat and his family after Christoph was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007.

The organization hopes to make treatment more comfortable for young patients, raise awareness of childhood leukemia and fund research to find the cause and cure for leukemia.

STERLING HEIGHTS: Don't forget 'Water for Elephants' at library
The Sterling Heights Public Library's book discussion group will discuss "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen when it meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Participants are responsible for obtaining a copy of the book. Reservations are not required.. The library is at 40255 Dodge Park.
