Wine Institute targets tasters with new online database

The Wine Institute has launched a new consumer Web site that allows visitors to access a statewide database of more than 600 California winery tasting rooms open to the public or by appointment.
The site, www.discovercaliforniawine.com, also allows visitors to search wineries by region, wine varieties produced, special events and amenities such as gardens, art displays, architecture, caves and concerts.
Visitors also can create customized winery tour itineraries, complete with driving directions, driving times and a downloadable map.
