Fire near St. Helena fully controlled
A fire that burned 300 acres in Napa County this weekend was fully controlled Monday, Cal Fire said.
The fire east of St. Helena destroyed a house and several outbuildings, but injured no one, Battalion Chief Dave Shew said.
Total losses were unknown, but the cost of fire suppression alone was about $1.25 million, Shew said.
The fire began Friday afternoon near Deer Park Road, possibly by a spark from a pickup, Shew said.
An investigation into the cause is continuing, Shew said.
Wind whipped the blaze through rugged terrain near the town of Angwin. At the fire's peak, more than 1,500 firefighters and several aircraft were on scene.
It was contained Sunday morning, but crews continued to douse hot spots Monday.
Smoke from the fire blew southwest as far as San Francisco, Shew said.
