Albert Boxler 2004 Grand Cru Riesling
From the German-tinged region of Alsace, France, where white wines rules, the rieslings have always been the dry, food-friendly counterpoint to low-alcohol, sweet rieslings from Germany. Boxler is an outstanding example.
"If this tastes as good as it looks" I thought as this viscous golden wine filled the glass.
This wine smells like pureed peaches, crisp apple, yet a tinge of the slatiness. There's just a hint of flavor from botrytis, a good grape mold that converts juice into something sublime and is more common in ice wines. It has a lime aftertaste with a crisp acidity. A special wine and a unique experience. Not available in Pennsylvania. $60. Five glasses.
