Mercy Wine Bar

On a recent Saturday night I made a trip to Mercy Wine Bar in the Dallas/ Addison area and was pleasantly surprised by experience. The occasion was a birthday, and some restaurants have trouble comfortably and successfully accommodating groups, that was not the problem in this case.  I was with a group of 12-15 and we called ahead and were given a private room upstairs where we sat on low stools and couches. It was a very cozy chic room , complete with a flat screen TV showing the Texas game that made the boys very happy.

Mercy does offer 100 wines by the glass and 50 by the bottle, and no I did not try all of them. I did however find a pinot grigio  that I like a lot called San Angelo Pinot Grigio, it was not to sweet and not to dry. It was a very easy to drink wine and reasonably priced and $12 a glass or $40 by the bottle. I suggest to always buy the bottle because it seems if you find a good wine you always drink more than anticipated. If pinot grigio is not your thing you are sure to find something else on the list that is. Then menu was done by countries and regions which makes it very helpful if you already know what you like, and if not there is a knowledgeable staff on-site to help There are also beers from around the world.

Something  else that I liked was the food. We had cheese plates as appetizers that paired the cheese with each of the bottles of wine we had gotten. Each of our plates had three different cheeses; don olivo, asiago, and cheddar, but there were 18 varieties to choose from depending on your wine choice. Each plate also came with apricots, pairs, apples, grapes and olives. The plates really added to the whole wine experience.

For dinner I had grilled cheese with apple slices on it, which yes does sound weird, but I highly recommend you try it anyway because I was impressed. It had fontina send Jarlsberg cheeses along with mozzarella and thinly sliced granny smith apples. It with the choice of fries or a house salad. I chose the house salad, and I wasn't a big fan of it. There was to much Parmesan on top, and so little dressing that I couldn't even taste it. I think next time I will be trying the fries.

There is a full menu if grilled cheese and apples doesn't meet your fancy. There are salads, sandwiches and plated entrees which range from steak to pasta to fish. There is something for everyone. There was also a dessert menu that looked amazing but I didn't get around to eating that much.

There is a live band every Saturday that again adds to the atmosphere making it pleasant. The band this time was kind of a jazz blues sounding band and the best was they didn't play so loud that you couldn't hear the people around you talking. The music levels were perfect.

Mercy opens at 4 p.m.  everyday, Sunday through Wednesday it closes at Midnight and the rest of the week it is open till two. They offering wine tastings every Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. If you aren't a wine fan tastings are a good place to start.
So if you find yourself craving wine and a laid back atmosphere I suggest Mercy.
