From the financial crisis to the wine crisis

Wine sales in France are showing a downward trend; the usual earla autumn promotions in supermarkets have done nothing to improve the situation.
In the twelve-month period from September 2007 to August 2008, sales of wine in French supermarkets decreased by 0,6 per cent. The picture is even more clear if one analyses the autumn promotions, which have just ended. Experience has shown that many French consumers use these promotions to fill up their stocks of wines in the low and medium price ranges after the summer holidays. Estimates say that sales of wine this autumn are six per cent down on last year.
