Yamhill grape growers loving that vine weather

MCMINNVILLE, Ore.—Winemakers in the Yamhill Valley say they held off harvesting despite predicted bad weather in mid-October, and they've been rewarded.
The bad weather has amounted to sporadic showers, and the harvest weather has turned dry and sunny.
That's perfect for the old-vine grapes that yield the best wines but take a little longer to mature.
Growers say that even a few days more on the vine can make a difference between good and exceptional crops, so they took a chance.
Now, they expect to have their fruit in by the end of the month—except for grapes deliberately held for late harvest, such as some rieslings.
