YAKIMA, Wash. -- Grape growers are hoping for warm days and cool nights the next couple of weeks to get the sugar content and flavors just right for the harvest.
The Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers expects a record yield. About a third of the crop comes from the Yakima Valley.
The Yakima Herald-Republic says Washington winemakers expect strong demand for state wines because extremes of cold and heat have dropped the yield this year in California.
