Argentina CFI ,Argentina Consulate General in Shanghai and Argentina Wine Association held a wine tasting ceremony named “Explore Argentina’s Melody” in Shanghai.
The wine are produced by 16 manufacturer, and this is the first time that they are introduced to China. Mengucci, the vice-consul, said that wines embody the variety of culture in Argentina, and tango is one of them. The purpose of this tasting is to show the spirit of tango.
Although Argentina is one of the five largest wine producers, Chinese consumers know little about it. But with the development of the Chinese wine market and the introduction of American and Australian wine into China, it won’t be so difficult for Chinese consumer to get familiar with it. But the competition with other wine manufacturers which have a longer history needs careful preparation and unique way of promoting.
Compared with wine produced in other countries, Argentina wine has its own advantages, which include sufficient sunshine, fertile soil and good quality water. Besides these factors, the government has focused on the improvement of technology and the foster of variety of grapes. All these factors contribute to the popularity of Argentina wine in the world. The output of wine in Argentina is stable, which is another advantage.
Most wine businessmen think that there is a potential market for Argentina wine in China, especially in Shanghai. But at the same time they also express that it is not easy to win the competition.
High quality with low price is another advantage of Argentina wine. The price of wine sold in Chinese market will between 100 to 200 yuan. Although the the quality of wine produced by these new producers is as good as that produced by those companies with a longer history, the recognition by the Chinese consumers is still a challenge. For Argentina, the cultural interaction is an effective way to promote their product.
Some data shows that the popularity of Argentina wine in the world is due to their economic globalization in 1990s. Although China has begun the economic globalization, the globalization of Chinese wine has not started due the Chinese market atmosphere.
