Wamego Winery Means Business
A Wamego man has started a winery with the hopes of it being an "incubator" for other aspiring winemakers to learn the trade and to make the Wamego area a center of wine culture.
Britt Nichols is a lawyer and entrepreneur in the town. Because Wamego is in the center of Kansas's wine country, Nichols says it's the perfect place to help aspiring winemakers get started.
That's why he wants his business to serve as a place where vintners can take advantage of existing resources without the expense of investing in pricey equipment.
Nichols says he hopes an increase in winemaking will mean an increase for business across the area.
"If being willing to be an incubator is a catalyst for a little more activity, then that's something we really ought to be doing," Nichols said. "And by incubator, anywhere from just being a helping hand, or lending somebody the right piece of equipment on a thursday afternoon if they haven't got something that you've got."
Nichols also teaches classes on winemaking at Highland Community College.
