Wineries Hopeful For Thanksgiving Business
Organizers Expect Good Business Despite Travel Predictions
YAKIMA -- Local wineries hope customers will pour in despite gloomy predictions for holiday travel.
Kana Winery in downtown Yakima takes part in the "Thanksgiving in Wine Country" event every year.
Gas prices are lower than they have been in years.
Still, the Automobile Association of America predicts that road travel will be down this Thanksgiving.
Kana says it has a built-in customer base that is helping sell tickets for the wine event.
"More family members are coming home, you know, because this is a really important time to be with family, and even more so with the way the economy has been, it could be the best one we ever had," says general manager Katherine Goodson.
Goodson also says the slow economy hasn't put a cork in business yet.
She says ticket sales for this weekend are up.
"Thanksgiving in Wine Country" starts Friday and runs through Sunday.
