If You Want to OWN the 2005 Burgundy Market…

By Kasey Carpenter  2008-11-28 9:58:11

…then you need to get to Hong Kong for November 15th and bring lots of money.

Why? There is an auction taking place via Acker, Merral & Condit that will be offering the single largest chance to purchase a huge amount of highly sought after 2005 Burgundy.  Probably the best to date, and these wines will only get more expensive as time marches on.

So for those who are reading this, if you can get to Hong Kong on the 15th of November and have close to a million to invest (and I use the word invest versus “gamble” because 2005 Burgundy hasn’t even begun to mature) in wine, I would strongly suggest you take a gander at Acker, Merrall & Condit’s latest catalogue of goodies being shipped to Asia.

Still not convinced of Asia’s wine buying potential?

Download the catalog here <http://www.ackerasia.com/082A_HK_FINAL_WEB.pdf> .  And put a bib on before you start reading it.  Also note the URL: ackerasia.com nice touch eh?  You don’t think THEY are taking the Asian market seriously?  Remember their debut auction in May that netted $8 million is sales?  Well AMC saw the hunger and has brought considerably more food to the table – this auction will crush the May numbers.  And the gallery photos are a collector’s dream…

Lots 388 – 461 were solely devoted to 2005 Burgundies.  And I mean the good ones.  I have never seen such a collection of young Burgundy at auction.  Ever.  And not just DRC, but Ponsot (what must be a sore spot for AMC), Meo Camuzet, Comte de Vogue, Roumier, Roty, Drouhin (the good ones), Dujac, Perrot-Minot, Lignier, Rousseau, and the list goes on and on and on.

I’ll admit, I am jealous of this auction.  Terribly so.  If I had a million dollars to invest in anything, I seriously think, and I mean invest in anything, wine, stocks, horses, whatever – I would take my seven figures and buy smart at this auction.

Think of what the last few insane vintages of red Burgundy have shown.  Realize that Burgundy is the darling of the collecting set right now.  Know that 2005 is a storied and hyped vintage that can deliver on the promise.

Even if you buy poorly (which is relative I assure you) at this auction, these wines will do nothing, absolutely nothing, but go up over the next decade.  You will not make a return like this on any stock.

Can we all pool our funds together and buy up this stuff?  Please?

Seriously.
