After the French wine association ---- Conseil Interprofessionnel Du Vin de Bordeaux (CIVB) and its wine school trained in Xiamen, Fujian Province the other day, recently vintners from Italy and South Africa seek profound cooperation with local vintners. Despite the pessimistic economic environment, the wine market in Xiamen has attracted a great deal of import vintners because of its rapid development and the great potential.

Related principle from the local vintner ---- Xiamen Utrans Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd---- commented that the import wine companies speeding up to enter the domestic especially Xiamen market brought good news to the development of Xiamen wine market and the spread of wine culture. Thus more people got access to the “ <http://bbs.chinadaily.com.cn/misc.php?action=viewratings&tid=237492&pid=238018> Exclusive yet affordable” fine wine and the rich wine culture.

Market: Xiamen, the Major Front for Foreign Vintners

During the training course that CIVB wine school held at the beginning of November, Thomas Jullien, manager of CIVB, Asia reviewed that the economic vigor and market outlook in Chinese wine market is very attracting. Beside Guangzhou and Shanghai, Xiamen was selected as a promotion training place due to “a survey showing the outstanding consuming capacity and the great potential in wine market.”

French wine, as the early explorer to Chinese market, enjoys great popularity in China, while wine from Australia, Italy and Spain follows the heel and enjoys a robust growth, having quickened the pace to Xiamen market.

Causes: The Significant Consuming Capacity

Wine being a non-necessity, the wine market can hardly avoid being affected under the unfavorable economic environment at present. However, because of the great potential in Xiamen market, such a large number of vintners chose to spread their market in Xiamen at this ripe time. Some insiders pointed out that the wine consumption per head in Fujian is the highest in China and Xiamen consumes the most medium and high class wine.

Feng Qi, counselor of marketing director from Xiamen Utrans Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd told the reporter that the annual wine consumption per head in China is 0.7 bottles, while Japan amounts to 16 bottles, France, 60 bottles. The huge gap indicates the huge potential in Chinese wine market. Feng also pointed out that with the fall in import tariff, various kinds of wine is imported to China; compared with the North, import wine has always captured great share in the South, which is closely related with the local economic development and the consuming capacity.

“While domestic wine keeps a larger share in the market, the consumption of import  wine boosts up in the passing two years, which corresponds to the custom statistics revealing the increase of import wine.” It is said now in bulk purchasing, import goods become more popular and import wine is chased by medium-and-high-income people such as the white collars and managers in enterprises who are also passionate for wine bars and private cellars.

As the main force in society, the post-80s and post-90s are undoubtedly the focusing consumers of import wine because of their high requirement for living standards and the quick accept of new staff, said Feng.

Expectation

Vintners from Australia and Spain had close cooperation with local wine suppliers like C&DWine, Xiamen Utrans Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd before. Recently, the largest Italian wine supplier in China Dazhou Wine Company and its partner GIV, and DBG Wine who keeps the second largest market share in South Africa came to Xiamen at the same time, talking about cooperation issues with Utrans.

Furthermore, more and more top “royal” wine companies held tasting parties in Xiamen to reveal the goods’ distinguished “ancestry” and quality, trying to establish close contact with consumers and retailing companies.
