Terra d'Oro Wins Top Honors for Zinfandel From the International Wine Challenge

 IWSC honors Terra d'Oro Zinfandel and names winery the best USA Producer at the 2008 awards ceremonies

Terra d'Oro 2005 Zinfandel has won the prestigious International Zinfandel Trophy at the 2008 International Wine Challenge (IWC). Terra d'Oro Winery was also named the Best USA Producer by the International Wine and Spirits Challenge (IWSC).

The influential IWC competition, held annually in London, evaluates more than 9500 wine entries and awards the top wines of the international wine community. From the 267 gold medal winners, 90 wines were further evaluated and awarded the coveted IWC Trophy through a blind tasting. The competition judges described the winning Terra d'Oro 2005 Zinfandel as having a "sweet ripe nose with lovely purity of fruit. The palate has a fresh, spicy, earthy structure." The Zinfandel was aged in American and French oak for 14 months and bottled in May of 2007.

"It's an honor to be recognized for the 2005 Terra d'Oro Zinfandel," says Jeff Meyers, Vice President and General Manager at the winery. "The blend is balanced and has distinctive Amador characteristics, including clove and all-spice. The IWC is an internationally acclaimed competition and we are honored to have received its recognition, both for the Zinfandel and as the Best USA Producer."

Terra d'Oro Winery is located in Plymouth, Calif., in the winegrowing region of Amador County. Brought to Amador County by gold mining pioneers, the Zinfandels of this region are known for spicy and balanced characteristics, nurtured by hot days and cool nights.
