Going Green - A look at organic wine
We all know the wine rule. White wine with white meat and red wine with red meat but there's a new color to consider, Green. There is an organic wine out there and you don't have to travel across the globe to find it.
It may seem new but in fact it's been around for years, organic or pesticide-free wine. It's the winery's way of going green and helping the environment.
Just because you're going green and drinking organic wine doesn't mean you're eliminating the flavor. You're actually adding flavor.
"To me the wine is more alive, it's more vibrant, it lingers on the pallet a little bit more with a dance on the pallet...is the way I like to describe it," says Laura Williamson, owner to Vin Tabla.
Vin Tabla is a restaurant with an extensive wine shop...and she knows a lot when it comes to picking the right wine.
"Pairing wine is not easy, it's an art, but you can make it as easy as possible. The first rule of thumb, is you want to honor what you enjoy," says Williamson.
Something else to keep in mind... When picking out a wine... Select a wine from the same country from where you're food is from...this adds a lot more flavor to the meal.
So what does organic wine really mean...
"Being green is not just organic, but it's about being small in your production and really focusing on trying to be as local as you can, be as honorable to the environment in many ways. Not just on the land, but on the winery as well," says Williamson.
So as the new year approaches... Try organic wines... The flavor is enjoyable...and you're helping the environment.
