Have a good glass of wine with that book — club

 It may not seem like it, but books and wine go together. To prove it, Wild for the Vine and the Palm Springs Library are sponsoring a new club that celebrates both.

 The group will have its first meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Palm Springs wine and accessories store. Meetings will then continue on the first Monday of the month.

The first book to be discussed is “A Good Year” by Peter Mayle. The club is free, but members must be 21 to attend the meetings, and pre-registration is required. The Gingerbread's still around
The Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa is still gingerbread headquarters — at least until Dec. 31. The Holiday Gingerbread Village with Shrek display is in the lobby. The 8-foot-long Shrek village took more than 80 people to construct and is made of 200 pounds of gingerbread and 80 pounds of sugar. That's enough to give the big green guy a really big tummy ache. All the characters, including Shrek, Princess Fiona, Puss In Boots and Donkey, are included in the display.
