Willamette Valley-Based Winery Releases American Made Port-Style Wine

Van Duzer Vineyards, a family winery in Oregon's Willamette Valley, has released Perplexity, a mellow after dinner wine made from traditional Portuguese Port grapes. Perplexity boasts honeyed impressions of mulled plum and blackberry fruit, tempered by layers of anise, bitter chocolate and hints of tobacco reminiscent of a humidor. Available for $50 at Van Duzer Vineyards or online at www.vanduzer.com, Perplexity comes wrapped in a ready-to-mail presentation box, making it a distinguished gift for any wine aficionado this holiday season.

"Van Duzer is known for its Oregon Pinot Noir, but we wanted to create a special wine for our friends this holiday season," said Van Duzer owner, Carl Thoma. "The grapes we used -- Souzao, Tinta Cao, Valdepenas and Tourigal -- are rarely cultivated in the U.S. and possess impressive complexity and aging possibility."

Perplexity was made from an acre of benchland vineyards on the historic Parducci Ranch in Ukiah, Calif. One hundred cases were made of the 2001 vintage. Perplexity pairs well with dry cheeses, figs, walnuts and dried fruits. The wine can be served now or cellared for another 10 years.
