Import of Bottled Wine Keeps Growing in Shanghai Port in 2008

The amount of imported bottled wine in Shanghai Port reaches approximately 140,000,000 USD in 2008, accounting for 53% of the total amount of imported bottled wine in China. Shanghai Port has been the largest import port for wine in China.

According to statistic from Shanghai Customs, the average annual growth rate of imported bottled wine was 71.2% from 2001 through 2003, reaching 96.6% from 2004 through 2007.  In particular, the amount in 2007 was 1.2 times that in 2006. Shanghai Customs cracked down on smuggling and rectified the trade environment in 2008, but the growth rate of imported bottled wine is still as high as 44.8%.

The statistic shows that import amount of bottled wine in Shanghai Port has increased over 50 times since 2001, with an annual average growth rate of over 80%. In recent years its import value has always been topping all the ports in China. The custom duty exacted from imported wine in Shanghai Customs amounts to 372,000,000 RMB in 2008, accounting for 2.1% of total duty in Shanghai Customs all year around.
