Organic wine producer calls for tax reform

Some wine producers are calling for the Federal Government to put an end to tax breaks available to absentee vineyard investors.

The call comes as the industry faces another year of an oversupply of grapes.

Sam Statham, an organic wine producer from Canowindra in New South Wales says the government needs to take responsibility.

"I think there needs to be a bit of recognition that the government does have a hand involved in the overproduction situation with the tax breaks that were granted," her says.

"You know, your three year write off for investors, so you've got a lot of absentee investors, doctors, and lawyers and corporate entities in Sydney, putting in massive areas of vineyards and that's really where most of the overproduction's come from."
