Jackson precinct rejects winery

By a narrow five-vote margin, Jackson Precinct voters temporarily defeated a proposal by an area business to open a winery.
According to Calloway County Clerk Ray Coursey Jr., the option was supported by 96 of 197 voters that cast ballots, but was opposed by 101. Only 22 percent of 866 eligible voters cast ballots on the local option question.
However Ruth Daughaday, co-owner of Stone Brook Vinyard & Winery said this morning that the family will not give up; particularly with such a narrow margin of defeat.
“We are thankful for the 96 that voted for it, but yes, we are definitely going to try again,” Daughaday said.
Stone Brook is owned and operated by Ruth Daughaday, her son, David, and her daughter-in-law, Rita.
