Diageo Installs Energy Efficient Lighting at Menlo Park Facility
New Fixtures and Timed Lighting Control Panels Help Reduce Carbon Footprint and Increase Energy Efficiency
MENLO PARK, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Diageo, the world's leading spirits, wine, and beer company, today announced that is has implemented a new energy saving initiative at its bottling facility in Menlo Park, California in order to reduce the facility's carbon footprint and annual operating costs. The initiative involves the conversion of plant lighting to more energy efficient fixtures and the installation of timed lighting control panels throughout the plant.
"At Diageo, we are constantly evaluating our facilities to see how we can work to reduce our carbon footprint," said Mark Laven, Vice President and Supply Manager of Diageo Menlo Park. "These energy efficient measures are helping us take positive steps towards activating upon Diageo's commitment to improve the environment. Moving forward, we will continue to look for new and innovative ways to make the Menlo Park facility more environmentally friendly."
By making these improvements, the Menlo Park facility will save 200,000 kilowatts per year, preventing approximately 460,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the air. To put that contribution into context, it would take almost 10,000 trees to remove that much carbon dioxide from the air in one year. In addition, Diageo will also see energy cost savings of about $60,000 per year.
The Menlo Park facility is also planning to convert the lights in its warehouse storage facility to more efficient fluorescent fixtures, improve energy management systems, such as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, and identify reduction opportunities in systems that need to be constantly running as part of plant's daily operations.
