Steenberg Vineyards to open new state-of-the-art facility this year
Steenberg Vineyards has announced plans to open a new state-of-the-art Winery, Cellar Door and Tasting Room facility towards the end of the year. Construction of the R30m project is currently underway, and includes the refurbishment of the existing winery, which boasts uninterrupted views across the vineyards and False Bay with the spectacular Steenberg Mountain as backdrop.
John Loubser, General Manager and Cellar Master of Steenberg Vineyards, says the new public facility is designed as a "wine destination" unlike any other in the Constantia Valley. "It will be an inviting, spacious and modern facility that will be visually interactive, with a Wine Tasting Bar and Lounge, as well as a Bistro with a Raw Bar complete with designated chef, where our wines will be expertly paired and presented with delicious, healthy, raw cuisine such as interesting salads, carpaccios, oysters, tartars, etc."
The new facility will also feature a private tasting room for VIP wine tastings and customized cellar door tours. Furthermore, the new facilities will boast a terraced dining area and a "sensory" garden with water features, paths and a maze that will delight families wanting to enjoy a day excursion into the Constantia Valley.
More about Steenberg Vineyards
Established in 1682 by the legendary "Widow Ras", Steenberg is the oldest farm in the Constantia Valley. Steenberg Vineyards is owned by Graham Beck and is rated as one of the top White Wine Cellars in South Africa. The estate produces 50 000 cases of wine annually, with approximately half exported to 15 countries worldwide. Steenberg wines are excellent 'food wines' due to the uniqueness of the terroir, which guarantees varietal expression, firm acidity and longevity. Sauvignon Blanc is currently considered the farm's flagship wine. Recent accolades include earning five stars in Platters' Guide 2008 for the maiden vintage Magna Carta 2007, and the selection of John Loubser's The White Savage Sauvignon Blanc for the prestigious Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction for two years running, fetching a record-breaking price for a white wine in 2008.
