Hit the road with Texas' many wine trails
Hit the road
With six wine trails, Texas offers plenty of opportunities for winery road trips, and you can even earn rewards — collectible wineglasses, posters and the like — for your winery miles with the Texas Winery Passport, available at all wineries and tasting rooms: Visit four wineries, enter their codes into your passport and sign up for rewards at www.gotexanwine.org. The passport itself serves as a cool little souvenir of your travels, with room for tasting notes.
You can hit the wine trails this weekend, when two special events beckon:
The Way Out Wineries — eight stops between Fort Worth and just north of Austin — will have some of their wines on sale Saturday and Sunday for a "January White (and Red) Sale." Each winery will offer a warming winter dish. Details: www.wayoutwineries.org.
On Saturday in the Hill Country, the nine wineries on the Fredericksburg Wine Road 290 will be offering their ports with goodies such as dark-chocolate tamales. Details: www.wineroad290.com.
