Yet more ice wine
Grapes for the production of ice wine were picked at many locations in Austria and Germany in the past few days.
In addition to the Friedrich Kiefer estate (Wein-Plus reported on this) others in the Baden region to produce ice wine included the Waldulm cooperative as well as the Zähringer estate (Pinot Noir in both cases, one at a must weight of 137 degrees Oechsle, the other ar 140 degrees Oechsle). On the Mosel, successful Riesling ice wine producers include, among others, the Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt and Melsheimer estates, while in Franken the Bürgerspital estate was also able to produce ice wine. In the Nahe region, the Diel estate reports a production of 300 litres of Riesling ice wine (picked at 170 degrees Oechsle), while in the Hessische Bergstrasse the members of the Bergsträsser cooperative brought in 250 litres of Pinot Noir must. Ice wine was also picked in Austria, for example at the Hans Tschida estate in the Burgenland region. (WF)
