According to the Financial Express, the central government has approved and cleared the creation of the Indian Grape Processing Board (IGPB) at Pune in Maharashtra. This board will greatly aid the wine sector in the form of R&D, the Indian wine industry’s sustainable development, Indian wine promotion within the country and outside, quality upgradation, extensions and market research and information.
The board is also expected to raise awareness and capacity building amongst processors, farmers and various stakeholders; this will lead to a rise in productivity, less wastage and global quality grapes and wine. Maharashtra produces almost 97 per cent of the total wine made in India.
