Recently, the financial crisis in the United States has had a severe effect on the world economy. Meanwhile it has spread around China’s imported wine market and caused the fluctuation of the wine price. As for the imported wine dealers, this coin has two sides.
Exchange rate is one of the most important elements for wine import. The fluctuation of exchange rate provides the imported wine dealers a good opportunity to cut down their payout in RMB. On the other hand, they have to face the prospect of a down market because of financial crisis’s effect on the Chinese middle class. So for the wine dealers, where is the way out under the present slumping market? It is important to find a balance between import and marketing and have an insight of the current economic situation.
There are always business opportunities behind the crisis, which is true to the imported wine dealers. They can take advantage of the strong RMB market to cut the imported cost. But many importers look on and reduce the import. According to Li Zhishuo, president of China Wine Platform LTD, French superior Lafite wine had a price slump lately. Although there is no clear sign of a down market, the trend will be out in the top-grade wine market next month.
Financial crisis has impacted on the international wine market. In China, the present policy is focused on activating consumption and pushing domestic demands. According to Xu Xiaonian, professor of Sina-European International Business College, investment and consumption are two ways for activating consumption which is considered as the best choice under the current situation. At the same time, the consumers and the wine collectors have the great opportunities to consume and drink top-grade wine in its downturn. Should more and more people realize that, the wine market will not be as bad as what they have expected. China slows down its economic development because of financial crisis, but it’ll keep its growing trend as a developing wine market.
