No buyers for wine grapes

Wine grape growers in Western Australia are struggling to find buyers for this season's grapes.

Due to the economic downturn, two of Western Australia's largest export markets - the United States and the United Kingdom - are in recession.

Large winemakers have therefore become very conservative in the amount of fruit they're willing to contract.

Head of WA's wine industry John Griffiths says the uncertainty means that some producers can't continue any longer.

"To be honest I think that some growers must be wondering at what point there will be a season where they don't tremble at the thought of trying to sell their grapes," he says.

"Some of those growers might be starting to think you know, enough is enough."
