Wine of the Week: Bertani, Venezie IGT, Duè Uvè Bianco 2007
Bertani, Venezie IGT, Duè Uvè Bianco 2007, $14.98-$15.99
Bertani brothers Gaetano and Giovan Battista started this winery 150 years ago, and Bertani family members are still involved today. They own their vineyards, which means they control the quality of the grapes that go into their wines. They specialize in the reds of the Veneto region, superserious wines, but they're not afraid of trying new ideas, such as their Duè Uvè wines.
"Duè uvè" means two grapes in Italian. The juicy pear fruit of pinot grigio and slight herbal, citrusy flavors of sauvignon blanc play together happily. The wine is made to preserve the fresh fruit flavors and does not see any oak. It's round and creamy in the mouth and will pair well with chicken flavored with a bit of lemon, or a creamy pasta.
Available at Big Daddy's, Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits, Central Market, Eatzi's, Goody Goody Liquors, Jimmy's Food Store, Mr. G's Beverage Center, and Sigel's Fine Wines.
