Jasper Winery to showcase local chefs and wine in four-course meal

Jasper Winery is beginning a showcase series that will feature some of Des Moines' most highly regarded chefs. Each month a new chef will create a four-course meal, which will have an emphasis on fresh and local ingredients, and will pair each course with a Jasper Winery wine. Mason Groben, Jasper's winemaker, and the featured chef will be present at each dinner to discuss and educate the guests about the wine and food selections.

Dinners will be served in Jasper Winery's beautiful Barrel Room and each guest will receive a tour of the winery prior to being seated.

The first dinner in the series will be Tuesday and will feature Chef Aaron King from Gateway Market. Each dinner has a maximum of 30 people, with a cost of $55 per person. Call (515) 282-9463 or go to www.jasperwinery.com/events.php.

Hessen House honors Buzzard Billy's with Fat Tuesday menu

The Hessen House will celebrate Fat Tuesday by bringing back memories of Buzzard Billy's, the now-shuttered downtown spot with a menu that paid homage to New Orleans cuisine.

From 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Tuesday, the Hessen House will give away free beads while serving jambalaya, gater fingers, gumbo, red beans and rice, Abita beer and hurricanes. Live music will be provided by Freestyle.

Eat free pancakes on National Pancake Day

IHOP Restaurants will offer guests a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Children's Miracle Network on National Pancake Day, Feb. 24.

The restaurant will accept donations for children's charities. IHOP restaurants last year raised $875,000. Check with your local IHOP to see if it is participating.

Bistro introduces four-course menu for couples

P.F. Chang's China Bistro has introduced a $39.95 prix fixe lunch or dinner menu. The new Chang's for Two four-course menu allows couples to indulge in a selection of signature dishes including Chang's Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Chang's Spicy Chicken, Dumplings, and the mini-dessert spread.
