The Weekend List: Wine and beer and a whole lot of tunes
Wine music is way different than beer music.
Not to reinforce stereotypes, but wine music is Norah Jones crooning the jazzy "Come Away With Me."
Beer music is Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Gimme Three Steps" or maybe country music's "I Don't Know Whether to Kill Myself or Go Bowling" and "I Bought the Boots That Just Walked Out On Me."
Which brings me to the weekend list ...
Sipping music: MacRaven's piano and cello music will entertain wine enthusiasts Friday at the Great Wine and Food Symposium in the Grand Rapids Public Museum
Suds rock: Delilah DeWylde and the Lost Boys will entertain beer drinkers at Fifth Third Ballpark on Saturday. The Big Shows: This weekend, it's all about beer and wine -- with plenty of music to drink to. Start things at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Great Wine and Food Symposium in the Grand Rapids Public Museum, 272 Pearl St. NW, with the smooth piano-and-cello strains of MacRaven to accompany your sampling of 300-plus wines. Tickets are $50; call (800) 442-2771. If you recover sufficiently from that, spend Saturday afternoon at the Winter Beer Festival hosted by the Michigan Brewers Guild at Fifth Third Ballpark, 4500 W. River Drive, Comstock Park. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the gate with tasty suds supplied by more than 40 Michigan brewers setting up shop in the ballpark parking lot. The admission price includes 12 beer tokens. And maybe best of all, recent Jammie Award winner Delilah DeWylde and the Lost Boys will entertain beer quaffers with some honky-tonkin' country and rockabilly strains. Cheers!
