Trapiche Continues Honoring Its Finest

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pioneer and active industry leader in Argentina, Trapiche is once again honored and proud to present the country’s fourth selection of Single Vineyard Malbecs—the 2006 vintage—a project aimed at conveying the extraordinary potential of Argentina’s terroirs for the production of Malbec.

“The wine is originated in the vineyard—it is born from the land and it is closely related to it”, expressed Daniel Pi, chief winemaker at Trapiche. “Origin is beginning, birth”, continue Pi, “but it also means place, nation, and ancestors. Having been born in Mendoza, I like to think that I was destined to be a winemaker, but it’s only been recently, after over 20 years in the industry, that I realized just how blessed I have been to work in Argentina, a country with the most diverse winegrowing areas and unique climatic conditions,” Pi continued.

Beginning with the famed 2003 vintage, Trapiche's chief oenologist and winemaker Daniel Pi and his team have chosen to, each year, select Mendoza’s three best Malbec grape growers to communicate Trapiche´s foundations: the richness of diversity. “When I visit our vineyards and grape growers, I realize that the richness of Trapiche lies there: the diversity of our varieties and terroirs,” commented Daniel. “The Single Vineyard Malbec project continues to be one that is unique and very close to our hearts and our roots. Here are three stories that true expressions of place of origin, history, tradition, love and respect for soil and the Malbec grape.”

Viticutural Director, Marcelo Belmonte, said of the newest vintage, “This year, Trapiche demonstrates how women are also very much involved in the process of wine growing and how their contribution has been so extremely valuable”. He continued, “We feel that women are more into details and a lot more demanding — they do not stop until they meet their objectives!” exclaimed Belmonte. Trapiche’s Daniel and Marcelo chose to distinguish the wines for the 2006 harvest from the vineyards of the following grape growers:

Viña Cristina y Bibiana Coletto, El Peral, Mendoza

Viña Federico Villafañe, La Consulta, Mendoza

Viña Adriana Venturín, La Consulta, Mendoza

Three outstanding wines, three remarkable grape growers, one variety: Malbec. The essence of Trapiche’s Single Vineyard Malbecs lies in the combination of these factors. There are many places in Argentina, potential or existing ones, for the production of top quality malbecs. Trapiche’s talent lies in spotting them. Oenologists and viticulturists work year round in order to select the best agro-ecological areas to source the perfect grapes for the wines they produce. There are over 100 grape growers working very closely with the viticultural team to complement the production of Trapiche’s own vineyards.

What makes this project different from any other? It is the great satisfaction for Trapiche to pay tribute to the work of these winegrowers who everyday devote their life to the land, the vines and to the Malbec grape.

Trapiche Single Vineyard Malbecs gives wine lovers worldwide the opportunity of enjoying a unique wine experience. The selection of three is available nationwide in limited quantities as well as in attractive wooden three-packs. At a suggested retail price of $45 per bottle, the adventure continues.

Perhaps the most exciting wines to date from what is certainly one of the most up and coming regions
