CA: Local Students Invited To Apply For Scholarships
Monterey County viticulture employee's children are eligible for scholarship programs
March 13, 2009 (Monterey, CA)--The Monterey County Vintners and Growers Foundation (MCVGF) is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2009 MCVGF scholarship awards program. The program honors 2009 high school seniors whose parent(s) are winery or vineyard workers employed by a MCVGF member. Applications are due by April 30, 2009. Awardees will be notified in May 2009.
Recipients of the scholarships may study the subject of their choice at any accredited university. Scholarships candidates are evaluated based upon demonstrated scholastic ability, community involvement, leadership, and their determination to succeed.
As in previous years, MCVGF has also partnered with the Monterey Peninsula Chapter of the Knights of the Vine to raise additional funds that will be distributed for scholarship recipients in the Monterey County community. In 2008, six students were honored by MCVGF for their outstanding accomplishments and over $8500 in scholarship awards were provided to the awardees.
In order to address the growing needs of the community, and to stress MCVGF's commitment to supporting advanced education, scholarship awards are expected to exceed $10,000 in 2009.
The Monterey County Vintners & Growers Foundation (MCVGF) brings together the talents and resources of its members, partners and community in order to promote and support leadership in the art, the science and the business of wine. Founded in 1974, MCVGF is a non-profit organization representing over 85 vintners and growers in Monterey, California.
