The Red Bar Winery & Bistro will open in the redevelopment area of downtown Elgin later this month.

The winery is hosting a label contest, open to anyone in the Fox Valley area. There is no entry fee or other requirements to participate. The winery will use selected art for labels on a line of wines to be titled "The Artist Series."

The Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin is acting as a partner with the winery in receiving entries to its Web site and office. They will have applications and contest rules available.

Anyone interested in participating or learning more can contact the Red Bar Winery, redbarwinery@tbc.net, or the Downtown Neighborhood Association at www.downtownelgin.org.

Contracts awarded

IHC Construction, headquartered at 1500 Executive Drive, Elgin, has been selected as the construction manager for the Scottish Rite Cathedral Association-Valley of Chicago's new headquarters facility in Bloomingdale.

The 62,000-square-foot replacement multipurpose headquarters facility will be constructed of brick, stone and glass, with high-end architectural interior finishes. The facility will include a dining room and full kitchen, bar and game room, lodge hall, auditorium, learning center, library and museum, as well as administrative offices and a tree-lined courtyard.

Construction will start in the spring and be complete in fall 2010. Overseeing the construction for IHC is Tom Carrano, senior project manager.

The Tradeshow Network Marketing Group -- a St. Charles-based leader in selling trade show displays, rentals exhibits, trade show services and marketing -- has been selected to build a new custom exhibit for Blomberg to introduce its products to the North American market at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in April.

The exhibit being built will be a kitchen venue with state-of-the-art appliances on display, highlighted by stage lighting, such as in a showroom.

Looking for a stimulus?

With the economy in a tailspin and unemployment rates at an all-time high, thousands of Americans are taking on second jobs -- or beginning new ones -- to keep their families financially afloat.
A recent survey conducted by The Pampered Chef revealed that more than one third (35 percent) of Americans have either taken or researched getting a second job.

In response, The Pampered Chef, a direct seller of high-quality kitchen tools, has announced a new career stimulus plan that makes beginning a direct sales business easier than ever. During March, anyone who joins as a new consultant can receive a 50 percent rebate on his or her initial investment.

To learn more, call Lana Pursell, sales director for The Pampered Chef, at 815-467-2373 or e-mail lanapursell@sbcglobal.net.

And not to be outdone in the local economic stimulus game, The Walleye Grill Restaurant at Sun City in Huntley will celebrate National Poultry Day Thursday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. with an "all you can eat" broasted chicken dinner, regularly priced at $9.95, at 50 percent off. No other discounts are allowed, and a beverage must be purchased with meal. The restaurant is at 12880 Del Webb Blvd.
