Wines of Germany Hosts 'Pinot Trio' Event
The first event in the United States to celebrate the Pinot Varieties - Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris - as interpreted by German Winemakers
NEW YORK, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Wines of Germany hosts its first ever event focusing on the Pinot varieties -- Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris -- at The London NYC. While Germany is best known for Riesling, which has surged in popularity in recent years, this event provides an opportunity to showcase other popular varietals in Germany. In fact, Germany is among the top three countries in the world producing Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris.
The trade and media event highlights these international varietals and the range of expressions they achieve in Germany. Beginning at noon, a luncheon and seminar will be led by Christina Fischer, author, restaurateur, and Gault Millau's Sommelier of the Year 2001, with additional commentary provided by Jurgen von der Mark, winemaker and Master of Wine, at Gordon Ramsay at The London NYC. A walk-around tasting will follow where 109 wines from more than 20 producers will be available from key German wine regions such as the Pfalz, Rheinhessen, and Baden.
"The event today seeks to highlight some of Germany's still lesser known but no less impressive Pinot wines. In fact, the Decanter World Wine Awards awarded the top International Trophy for Pinot Noir to a German Spatburgunder in 2008*," said Mrs. Fischer. "The American wine cognoscenti will now have the chance to taste these varietals so treasured in Germany."
Like other German wines, German Pinots are known for their delicacy and balance, and are ideal for pairing with a wide variety of foods. Twelve Pinot wines will be tasted during the formal luncheon to better showcase their food pairing abilities.
German Pinot wines are so beloved in their native country that most of them are consumed before they reach the export market. Yet more and more producers are offering their wines in the U.S. or are looking for states side representation. Producers attending the inaugural "Germany's Pinot Trio" include:
