WEB EXTRA: South Okanagan winery recognized
Wild Goose Vineyards and Winery has been named Pacific Northwest Winery of the Year by Wine Press Northwest magazine.
A regional Winery of the Year is first chosen for each of four regions: Idaho, B.C., Washington and Oregon. From that list, the Pacific Northwest Winery of the Year is chosen and this is only the second time the award has been won by a B.C. winery.
More than 1,100 wineries make up the region.
Over the past year, Wild Goose Vineyards has won many awards and it shone at the Okanagan Wine Festival winning the top awards for five of their wines.
Wild Goose Vineyards was founded in Okanagan Falls in 1984 by Adolf, Hagen and Roland Kruger. In 1990 the farm-gate winery concept came into play and Wild Goose added a winery to its operation — the first farm-gate winery in the province growing grapes, making wine and bottling on site.
